The Thirteenth Hour

Is Daylight Saving Time a Government Conspiracy?

Nobody asked for it, nobody wants it. Yet somehow, DST has endured for over a hundred years, like a government app that can't be uninstalled. Official reasons are nowhere to be found. Studies are inconclusive. What’s really going on? Is the Vatican behind it again?

Daylight Saving Time: something nobody ever asked for, something nobody ever wanted. It was true a hundred years ago when it was introduced, and it's true today. Hard to believe it's been that long, isn't it? I had to double-check that number when I first read it. Such a strange ritual we've all been taking part in for so long—twice a year, every year, rocking the clock forward and backward, like a baby we're trying to put to sleep. And we do it like it's perfectly normal, like it's not the most pointless thing one could do with time.

Something doesn't add up. What's really going on behind DST?

Perhaps the most suspicious aspect of DST is that nobody knows why it even exists, at least not officially or definitively. The "official" reason that I most often come across is for energy conservation. The claim is that by extending the window of sunlight into the evening for a portion of the year, total energy consumption is reduced. This reason makes the assumption that people won't simply use that saved-up energy the following morning, which is now one hour earlier and one hour darker.

And they do—of course they do, who would have thought otherwise? This most predictable behavior is why studies that measure energy consumption during DST are inconclusive, at best. Some studies have even found a total energy increase because of DST. And this is the official reason, at least de facto? This is what we are all told to believe?

Maybe the other reasons, of which there are plenty, make more sense.

One of those reasons is to give people more daylight in the evening for longer outdoor activities, to improve health and wellness it would appear. The only problem with this reason is that it doesn't involve money, which is what's behind every government program, especially one that can endure a century. How the altruistic-government theory has gained so much traction is a mystery in itself, one that perhaps can rationally be explained as an intelligence psyop, which would undoubtedly blow the lid on the whole thing.

Another reason I frequently encounter is economic stimulation. The claim is that DST gets more people out of their homes and into spending activities, like shopping and dining out. While this explanation at least has a greedy motive, it still doesn't add up. The bulk of shopping is now done online, and dining out is probably next because of door-delivery apps. Besides, if you want to get Americans out to restaurants, nothing moves bodies like free sides. When's the last time you didn't pay extra for avocado or biscuits? My point exactly.

The list of reasons goes on forever—fewer car accidents, safer streets, improved agriculture. We've heard them all before. I won't bore you with them, and more importantly, I won't insult your intelligence. Just take notice that nobody knows for certain why DST exists. Nobody.

Another peculiar aspect of DST is the number of politicians talking about getting rid of it, but never getting rid of it. For years, if not decades, politicians have been clamoring for an end to DST, even going so far as drafting legislation for congressional approval. Yet, DST remains. And those politicians, curiously, are never heard from again on the subject of DST. Did someone get to them? Were they told to back off? Were they threatened? Pay attention the next time a politician criticizes DST and see it how it plays out.

It also cannot be ignored that the majority of the world does not observe DST. This may come as a surprise to some, but outside of the West, by and large, DST is not a thing. There are actually populations on Earth that can handle the natural ebb and flow of daylight. Their energy infrastructures haven't crumbled. Their economies haven't collapsed. They haven't all died in car accidents. They're doing just fine, if not better than all of us in DST hell.

So, what exactly is going on here? Is it another globalist money laundering scheme? Is it the Vatican again? Is it just a coincidence that DST is observed by all members of the Five Eyes Alliance?

Perhaps the most attractive hypothesis is that DST is a mass mind control operation. By perpetually interfering with time—rocking it forward and backward an hour every seven to eight months—the collective circadian rhythm is disrupted just enough to keep people from becoming superhuman, but not enough to keep them from working the factories. This may sound far-fetched, but we've all seen how much politicians love open borders for the added labor.

Another hypothesis is that DST is a time siphoning black operation run by military intelligence. We've seen how masterfully factions in the United States military can compartmentalize secret projects, shielding them not just from the public but other compartments of the military and Congress. The conspiracy theory is that a small group of people are siphoning off one hour each year when the clock is rolled forward and storing it in a “time bank”, but never giving it back when the clock is reset. This time bank is purported to be somewhere in Alaska, or underwater. The fear is, of course, that this siphoned time will be used nefariously.

There are lots of hypotheses floating around—space-time continuum tinkering, agriculture warfare, werewolf chimeras. Whatever is actually behind DST, you can bet that it's not going anywhere, despite what you read in the news. DST appears to be far too powerful of a weapon to lay down. It may end up being the greatest Trojan Horse humanity has ever witnessed.

And that’s the part that should really make you pause. For something so seemingly trivial, DST has a surprisingly tight grip on our lives. It's just one hour, right? One harmless, barely noticeable little nudge of the clock. But over time, these nudges accumulate, not just in the body, but in the psyche. Jet lag without the plane. Twice a year, like clockwork, our internal equilibrium is reset by force, no questions asked. It’s a ritual. And as history shows, when a ritual is imposed long enough, it becomes sacred and untouchable. And that should terrify us all.
